On paper, this match against the high flying reserves of a Midland Alliance first team looked difficult and so it proved; not so much for the skill levels one would expect from Alliance potential players, but from their readiness to physically intimidate and push the boundaries of fair play to breaking point.
They are a talented team and one can see why they collected the 'team of the month' for October, but because things did not go well for them a darker side emerged. Young Dan Tierney was illegally barged off the pitch and into the walled area by a deliberately swerving full back who received a justifiable booking. There were other incidents but enough said. Despite of that it was an exciting, tense and equal struggle.
The opening salvos went back and forth with both teams having moments in each others penalty areas but Coleshill drew first blood when Darryl Foster was adjudged to have pulled down one of their forwards who plunged to the ground. Penalty. Michael Buckingham made no mistake 1-0
Bromsgrove began to exert more pressure and had a chance to score but their keeper saved twice from close range and they survived.
On 24 minutes another break down the right allowed Dan Tierney the chance to cross the ball for the predatory Alex Kelly to head the equaliser. 1-1
Immediately after half-time Dylan Townsend made a long awaited return to replace injured Simon Phillips. He was quickly into the thick of things by working well up the left and crossing for yound Robbie Cox to head for goal. The keeper, who was having a very good game for Coleshill tipped the balll over for a corner.
On 50 minutes further Bromsgrove pressure led to a defender bringing down Tierney in the penalty area. Luke Whitehouse calmly waited for 2 minutes whilst the incident was dealt with before hitting an unstoppable shot beyond the goalie. 2-1
Yet further efforts from Kelly, Cox and Crook were repelled. Coleshill pushed forward for the last few minutes of the game and sadley for Sporting they broke through. A cross from the right was met by a surging Coleshill forward who headed their second, much to the leaping delight of their staff and subs. 2-2.
The game ended shortly afterwards. A draw was perhaps fortunate for Colehill but they are a good side and should feature in the end of season accolades.
Subs: Dylan Townsend for Simon Phillips. 46mins.
