"The One that got away"

Bromsgrove Sporting were puzzled how three points were not registered on Saturday evening.
After a sensational start and first half Contintal Star were well and truely hooked, caught and hanging periously over the landing net which Sporting had placed beneath them.
Going in at half-time 4-1 to the good, Sporting were happy.

From the off Dan Lismore drove up the right, earned a free kick which was cleared.
Robbie Cox had a shot blocked on 4mins. Ryan Molesworth coming back from injury, broke through and almost scored.
Another Lisemore, Molesworth combination saw Star just survive again.

Against the run of play, a long clearance by Star was allowed to bounce by a square defence and a speedy Robinson scored for Star. 1-0

Yet another shot cannoned off Continental's post from Ryan as Sporting pushed on again.
On 18mins Sporting drew level when Robbie Cox scored with a shot within the penalty area.
Birthday boy Spencer Kenward chased up the right from his defensive centre back position
giving the ball to Luke Whitehouse. He crossed for Ryan Molesworth to thump  home numer 2.
2-1.
On 36mins a throw, classically flicked on by  Whitehouse freed the spring heeled Molesworth who speed goalward. His fierce drive cannoned off the keeper to make it 3-1.

Sporting continued to dominate and won several corners and had shots saved, deflected or were narrowly wide. One spectacular diving header by Danny Lisemore comes to mind. As the half came to a close, another attack saw the ever enthusiastic and willing Spencer Kenward hammer in our fourth on 41mins.  4-1

We agreed to keep it tight, concentrate, it is 0-0 now, keep a clean sheet, they would come out after a rocket' etc, etc .

We lost concentration, played silly passes and permitted Star back in the game. They didn't need a second invitation. When on song they are a very good side and they improved massively.
Mistakes, poor clearances, gifted Star a 2nd, 3rd and an equalising 4th goal.

Between those efforts Sporting had further chances to take all the points but could not get the ball over the goal line. It truely was a case of the one that got away!

Special mention of Spencer Kenward who played another valiant game but had to leave the pitch following a clash of heads. He has broken his cheek bone.
Spencer and his family have long supported Sporting. His humour, diligence, enthusiasm and sheer hard work on the pitch has inspired our dressing room. We wish him and Lucy all the best as he recovers from his injury.
