Bromsgrove Sporting suffered the heartache of a penalty shoot-out defeat at the hands of Premier Division Highgate United at Aggborough Stadium, home of Kidderminster Harriers.

The Rouslers were forced into changes with Jason Cowley, Reece Hewitt, Andy Nicol and Liam Spink all being cup-tied.

The first half was a cagey affair with Bromsgrove having the best of it, but Highgate took the lead in the 38th. minute when Lei Brown pouced after a defensive mix up in the Sporting six yard box.

Bromsgrove were forced into taking the game to Highgate in the second half, which to a large extent they did, with Highgate trying to hit Bromsgrove on the break. But with 2 minutes remaining young substitute Alfie Bloomer perfectly lobbed Brendon Bunn in the United goal to take the final to a penalty shoot-out.

The shoot-out ebbed and flowed, but it was Highgate that seasled the victory when defender James Loney beat Jonathan Brown to take the penalty shoot-out 5-4.

Bromsgrove now turn their attention back to league matters when they take on Stafford Town at Evans Park on Saturday, needing 11 points from the last 8 games to be certain of taking the title.
